1. Director of Education

Director of Education Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the CEO and in accordance with the association’s policies and procedures, the Director of Education is responsible for the Education/Professional Development of its members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Act as staff liaison to the Education Committee to include creating a meeting agenda with the Committee Chair, establishing a time and location for the meeting, keeping minutes for the meeting, and facilitating all activities required by the Committee. 

With oversight from the Education Committee, coordinate, plan and implement all continuing education (CE) courses, seminars and workshops for the association.

Develop and oversee education marketing plan including but not limited to; scheduling and finalization of course offerings for input into association database, curriculum summary draft for placement on the website, and classroom reservations.

Ensure courses are appropriately instructor staffed; establish back up instructor list and identify alternate instructors in cases of emergency.

Ensure all courses are approved by the MD Real Estate Commission.

Locate and utilize approved instructors for license programs.

Stay abreast and demonstrate knowledge of all aspects of regulations which impact education programs.

Conduct, analyze and compute evaluation techniques and tools for all license and continuing education programs. Provide state-approved instructor survey to the MD Real Estate Commission to improve student experience(s).

Coordinate, plan and implement all professional development seminars, workshops and events for the association.

Evaluate all instructors and trainers for the professional development seminars, workshops and events within the association.

Ensure that the association offers, promotes, or provides at least one professional development opportunity (REALTOR EDGE) for members, annually in compliance with the NAR’s Core Standards.

Determine suitability of new curriculum for CE credit. When appropriate, oversee the submittal and approval process.

Submit CE credits to the MD Real Estate Commission for member licensing.

Oversee compliance with the real estate commission.

Responsible for new member orientation to include the National Association of REALTORS requirements for becoming a member to include the 90-day requirements to attend a new member orientation, and complete fair housing and ethics requirements.

Assist Association with events as needed.

Other Committee assignments to be determined.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in educational programming and meeting planning.

Understanding of Robert’s Rules of Order.

Demonstrated ability to establish policies and procedures, develop priorities, and identify necessary resources to reach all education goals.

Demonstrated ability to work one-on-one with various members of leadership, coworkers, and management. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
2. Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
3. Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
4. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
5. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
6. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
7. Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.

2. Government Affairs Director

Government Affairs Director (GAD) Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: The GAD is responsible for managing and administering local governmental affairs activities for the association, in support of the real estate industry.

This position includes coordination with both the National Association of REALTORS® and the state association.  

Requirements and Qualifications:

Committee Liaison: Staff liaison to the Legislative Committee. Works with the chair to set agendas, invite guest speakers, and educate the committee. Work with committee to identify issue priorities, action strategies, and develop minutes. Updates the committee on federal and state collaborative efforts.

Lead Advocate: Based on issue priorities, leads advocacy efforts on behalf of the association on a local level. Works directly with elected officials to monitor issues and educate them on association positions.

National/State Connection: Collaborates with NAR on both federal candidates and issues. Collaborates with the state association on both state candidates and issues.

REALTOR® Party Efforts: Supports Calls for Action, writes grants to utilize Realtor Party initiatives. Encourages participation in the Broker Involvement program and uses the Land Use Initiative to review local ordinances.

Committee Liaison: Staff liaison to the REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC). Develops a plan for reaching annual RPAC goals. Executes plan and ensures compliance with state and federal law. Works with the RPAC Committee to identify candidates for support and funding.

Coalitions: Builds local relationships to assist in furthering issue priorities.

Political Engagement: Attends county council meetings and fundraisers, as needed. • Education: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate the organization’s positions clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences. Should be able to write articles for association newsletter and use other communication vehicles to educate the association membership about advocacy efforts and supported candidates.

Branding: Coordinates with the communications specialist/director to secure media for advocacy related issues.

Administration: Assists CEO/AE with budget for governmental affairs, and related activities. Maintains department files.

Core Standards: Assists CEO/AE to ensure related NAR Core Standards are achieved annually.

Hours and Travel: Must be able to work flexible hours including some holidays. Travel as needed.

A bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, government relations, or a related field is a plus, but commensurate experience will be considered.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, or a related role, with a strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory process.
